Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, unveiled a groundbreaking initiative during the closing ceremony of the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport.
This significant event took place at the esteemed Dubai World Trade Centre, where the fourth edition of the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport 2025 was held. Under the theme of "Empowering Mobility 4.0," the initiative aims to establish a model district that seamlessly integrates multiple transit options within a single area.
This innovative approach empowers residents to choose their preferred mode of transport, ensuring convenience and high-quality service. The ultimate objective is to create a global benchmark for autonomous mobility in urban environments.
Al Tayer attended the signing of three memoranda of understanding (MoU) on the sidelines of the congress aimed to undertake trials for operating autonomous buses in Dubai.
Two agreements were signed with the winners of the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport: Chinese King Long Company and Egyptian Bright Drive Company. The purpose is to exchange expertise in the field of self-driving buses.
Additionally, a third MoU was signed with SAE International, a prominent organization in mobility and the development of safe and environmentally friendly transportation solutions.
"Last week's Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport was energizing and informative. SAE International sponsored two workshops with battery thought leader Bob Galyen and autonomous systems expert Venkat N. Krovi. We also visited Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi for a dialog with Majid Khonji and his team. An excellent week delving into the challenges and opportunities of autonomous driving and sustainability," said Frank Menchaca, President of SAE Sustainable Mobility Solutions, on LinkedIn.
