Range anxiety, you know, that fear of running out of electricity on a road trip? Well, it keeps a lot of people from jumping into electric vehicles (EVs). But hey, with EV sales breaking records and competition among charging companies heating up, guess what? It's gonna be easier to find a charge real soon!
Seven major automakers have recently unveiled a collaborative initiative aimed at establishing an extensive EV charging network across North America, reports Sara Lozanova for Earth 911 today. With a planned 30,000 charging stations, this joint venture by BMW Group, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Group, and Stellantis NV seeks to enhance the convenience, accessibility, and compatibility of EV charging infrastructure, writes Lozanova
This yet-to-be-named network has the potential to provide strong competition to Tesla Superchargers and make effective use of the EV charger subsidies offered by the Biden administration, Lozanaova writes.
The Biden-Harris administration has launched major initiatives to advance the electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in the United States. One of the key programs is the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program (NEVI), which has been allocated $5 billion to improve the EV charging network across the country. The NEVI program aims to fill the gaps in the current EV charging network to ensure more reliability and convenience for EV users.
Under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Biden-Harris administration has made $100 million available specifically for improving the EV charger infrastructure. This funding targets areas where the EV charging network needs bolstering, with a focus on enhancing accessibility and dependability.
The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, was passed by the Senate on August 10, 2021. It was then passed by the House on November 5, 2021, and was signed into law by President Joe Biden on November 15, 2021.
Tesla Superchargers are charging stations specifically designed for Tesla electric vehicles. They are strategically located on major routes near convenient amenities, allowing Tesla owners to charge their vehicles quickly while on the go. These Superchargers are found worldwide, including in the United States.
