The electric vehicle (EV) revolution is pushing forward, with more and more people adopting clean energy technology daily. One of the limiting factors for many potential EV owners is the current lack of charging infrastructure. However, fast food restaurants and convenience stores are investing in EV charging stations to help alleviate this issue. Let’s take a look at how 7-Eleven's network, 7Charge, as well as other fast food restaurants across the country, are pushing into this field.
7-Eleven's Network, 7Charge: 7-Eleven has recently rolled out its own network of EV charging stations called 7Charge. This network has already been implemented in various states across the US and Canada, with plans to expand its reach even further in the near future. 7Charge offers variable pricing depending on local regulations and energy consumed or time spent charging a vehicle. Adapters are also available for Teslas so that they can be used with these chargers.
Other Fast Food Restaurants Investing in EV Charging Stations: Other fast food chains are also joining the push for greater access to electric vehicle technology. Wendy’s recently announced that it would be investing $20 million into developing new EV charging stations across its locations nationwide by 2025. Additionally, Burger King is joining forces with Electrify America to install more than 600 DC fast chargers at 200 restaurant locations nationwide by 2023. Looking abroad, McDonald’s Japan has installed over 1,500 DC fast charging points at its locations throughout Japan since 2018 and plans to expand its reach even further in 2021 with an additional 880 charging points being added at 400 different restaurant locations throughout Japan by July 2021.
Fast food restaurants and convenience stores around the world have begun investing heavily in expanding the nation's electric vehicle infrastructure by installing EV charging stations at their locations. Not only does this investment make it easier for customers to charge up while grabbing a quick bite or running errands but it also helps pushes forward clean energy technology adoption both nationally and internationally. With companies like McDonald’s Japan leading the way overseas and other chains following suit here in the US, we can expect to see a major expansion of electric vehicle infrastructure over the next decade or so that will put us one step closer to becoming a fully electrified society!
As electric vehicles continue to gain popularity, it's becoming increasingly important to have a reliable network of charging stations. That's why several major fast food and convenience store chains have recently announced their plans to invest in this new market. These companies recognize the need for more accessible charging options and are now taking action to expand the country's charging infrastructure. It's exciting to see these efforts being made and it's sure to make owning and operating electric vehicles even more convenient and economical in the future.
